Senator Mike Enzi (R-WY), Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, said today that with the Senate under new Republican management, the Budget Committee has played an important role by working to pass the first ten-year balanced budget since 2001 and approving the repeal of Obamacare through the budget reconciliation process.
The Senate has also pushed back on the Administration's Clean Power Plan and Waters of the U.S. rule. The Wyoming delegation helped restore the Abandoned Mine Lands funding back to Wyoming.
“Republicans in the Senate have been focused on putting our country on not just another course, but a better course, and the Senate Budget Committee has played an important role,” said Chairman Enzi. “From a balanced budget to Obamacare repeal, we are beginning to rebuild the trust of hardworking taxpayers, who have seen their government become less effective and accountable.”
Chairman Enzi noted the Budget Committee has been focused this year on increasing oversight and transparency surrounding Congressional spending and the budget process, and over the course of the year, the committee:
- Held 17 hearings focused on biennial budgeting, regulatory reform, Congressional Budget Office (CBO) oversight, and the nation’s surging national debt;
- Published 9 Budget Bulletins, which provided regular expert articles by committee analysts on the issues before Congress relating to the budget, deficits, debt, and the economy; and
- Directed CBO to produce 4 budget scorecards that tracked the budgetary impact of enacted legislation against the FY 2016 balanced budget resolution the Republican Congress approved.
“The Senate is under new management, and these accomplishments, and others still to come, show hardworking taxpayers that Republicans in the Senate are working to deliver a government for the people and by the people, that supports them when it must, and gets out of the way when it should,” Chairman Enzi said. “We have made great progress this year, but there is still much more to be done. By working together, we are proving that we can deliver real solutions and real progress that the American people want and deserve.”
