U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., went to the Senate floor today to show his support of President Trump’s nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court, Judge Neil Gorsuch.

Enzi recalled how immediately impressed he was by Gorsuch when they first met several years ago. Enzi noted that it would be hard for anyone to doubt his character and qualifications.

“I am confident that Neil Gorsuch is qualified to be a member of the Supreme Court because of his steadfast commitment to the rule of law,” Enzi said. “His opinions reflect his respect for following the law as it is written, and applying and adhering to judicial precedent.  He is a judge who applies the law to the facts of a case and reaches the conclusion that examination yields, regardless of his own personal beliefs.”

Enzi mentioned that in 2006 the Senate unanimously approved Gorsuch for service on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Then-Senators Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama expressed no disagreement.

“This was, in essence, an endorsement from three of the most influential political figures then serving in the Senate among my colleagues across the aisle,” Enzi said. “I find some of the opposition to Judge Gorsuch and questioning of his qualifications somewhat baffling. I believe there’s only one logical conclusion to reach after all this examination. That Judge Neil Gorsuch is supremely qualified for and capable of, the solemn and mighty task of serving as the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.

The Senate is expected to vote on Gorsuch this week.
