Washington, D.C. - The Laramie Fire Department is set to receive federal assistance to help fund the resources needed to protect their community, according to U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo.

The Laramie Fire Department will receive $124,702 in a federal grant to fund firefighter training and to purchase firefighting equipment, personal protective equipment, fund wellness and fitness education programs, and modifications to their fire station facility. The grant is issued by the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP) under the United States Fire Administration of the Department of Homeland Security.

"Wyoming communities can be assured that our firefighters can provide the best emergency protection for residents and themselves," said Enzi. "These grants are specific to the needs of our local fire departments to update their training and equipment." AFGP awards one-year grants directly to fire departments to support firefighters and the services they provide. This year the AFGP will provide $750 million to fire departments across the nation.

A current list of award recipients and dates announced is posted at http://www.usfa.fema.gov. A complete list of applications, financial information and state fire department data is available at www.firegrantsupport.com.
