Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., is giving Wyoming youth considering military careers the opportunity to apply for nomination to the nation’s service academies. Schools include the Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, Military Academy and Merchant Marine Academy.
“Academy service provides excellent training and education opportunities to our nation’s youth and is a meaningful way for our young men and women to serve our country and develop leadership skills,” Enzi said. “I am proud to be involved in a program that encourages the best to serve our country.”
For every vacancy available at each academy, Enzi is allowed to nominate 10 people. Nominations are based on SAT/ACT test scores, an evaluation of leadership and extracurricular activities, applicants’ personal statement of interest, and letters of recommendation. Based on the applicant’s interview with Enzi’s selection committee, applicants are recommended to Enzi for final approval. Following the senator’s nomination, final selection for an appointment will be made by the academy.
All applicants for service academies require a Congressional nomination. Applications for nomination are due to Enzi’s Gillette office by Nov. 20, 2009. Final nominees will be announced in late December. The application, procedures, and specific applicant criteria are available www.enzi.senate.gov under “Academy Nominations” in the “Constituent Services” drop-down menu.
