Washington, D.C. -- Jayme Bratschi, a 1996 Torrington High School graduate, will be spending a portion of her summer in Washington DC, working for Senator Mike Enzi.
Bratschi, daughter of Torrington residents Jane and Lee Faber, is serving as an intern through the first week of July.
Bratschi is studying social sciences and secondary education at Chadron State College. She hopes the internship will broaden her knowledge of government.
"I would like to teach social studies and political science when I graduate from college," said Bratschi. "I think actually working in the Senate will give me valuable first-hand knowledge in this area and make me a more competent teacher."
Bratschi is enjoying the experience so far, which has included visits to the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum and many of the monuments. Even the day to day "routine" in Washington, is something new from her perspective.
"I'm discovering a different culture in our own country," she said. "I'm used to small towns. Living in Washington is a nice experience."
Enzi's office is now taking applications for fall internships. For more information call Enzi's Washington office, 202-224-3424 or write to: Senator Mike Enzi, United States Senate, Washington D.C. 20510-5004.
