Enzi calls for student nominees to military academies

Application deadline is November 30

October 4, 2005

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo, is giving Wyoming youth considering military careers the opportunity to apply for nomination to the nation’s Service Academies. Schools include the Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, Military Academy, and Merchant Marine Academy.

“Academy service is a great way for young men and women to serve our country and develop leadership skills. The academies provide excellent training and education and I am proud to be involved in a program that helps the best and the brightest serve our country. I encourage those who are interested to make the most of this opportunity,” said Enzi.

For every vacancy available at each of the academies, Enzi is able to nominate 10 young people. Nominations are based on SAT/ACT test scores, an evaluation of leadership and extracurricular activities, applicants’ personal statement of interest, and letters of recommendation. Based on the applicant’s interview with Enzi’s selection committee, applicants are recommended to Enzi for final approval. Following the Senator’s nomination, final selection for an appointment will be made by the academy itself.

All applications for service academies require a Congressional nomination. Applications for nomination are due to Enzi’s Gillette office by Nov. 30, 2005. Final nominees will be announced in late December. The application, procedures, and specific applicant criteria are available on-line at under the heading “Academy Nominations.” For additional application information, contact State Director Robin Bailey at (307) 682-6268 or
